Volunteering with ABC

There are many ways to volunteer with ABC Longmeadow. The program is run by an all-volunteer board. An executive board meets monthly, and there are four standing committees.

A host family provides each boy with connections to the community. They host the boy one weekend a month, and provide support and encouragement in many less structured ways. From rides to the mall, to attending school events, the host family is an integral part of a boys life.

Other volunteers assist with academics, tutoring, publicity and fundraising, finances, and health care.

The upkeep and maintenance of the residence falls on the shoulders of the Housing Committee. Many volunteers worked over several weekends this summer to clean, paint and spruce up the house. On 9/11 a group of community volunteers painted the living room, laid carpet, painted the front hallway and stairwell, and landscaped the yard. Photos below show some of the hard work.

Last fall, six volunteers and the boys participated in the Fall Cleanup, where six trailers of leaves were taken to the leaf composting facility.
